Matthew and Milo the Doberman.
We came across Abe through a referral from one of our close friends. We saw the results and success they had with sending their dog to Abe for board and train and we wanted the same for our new puppy.
Since our puppy, Milo, was still very young at the time, when we reached out to Abe, we wanted to do a mix of board and train and home lessons (we wanted time to bound with Milo while he was still little). Abe would come over to our house and give us lessons. I think one of the biggest things and one of the things that Abe does really well, is that dog training really involves teaching the owners just as much as working with the Dog.
Abe’s passion and knowledge is very apparent during lessons. I am someone who has extremely high exceptions with most things in life, I think these expectations I have are amplified even more so when it comes to the love of a pet, or significant other, etc. The greatest part was that Abe was able to meet my exceptions (for anyone that knows me, knows that this isn’t easy to do). Abe took the time to make sure we understood what he was teaching us, he left plenty of time for our questions, and he was never in a rush. He was patient with what I’m sure were many dumb questions on my part, and he took the time to explain things over and over through my mistakes with Milo without judgment or getting annoyed at my novice skill set.
When it came time for board and train Abe was more then accommodating for our special needs/requests, something I am very thankful and grateful for, and something I don’t think many other people would be so willing to accept. Our request took a lot of extra time each week out of his schedule, and something I want to make sure and give him a great deal of credit and respect for.
Abe also made sure that we were updated regularly with videos of Milo’s progress. We were also able to sometimes follow updates on the training Facebook group. Seems like something small, but it meant so much to be able to check in on Milo and see how he was doing while he was away. At the end of Milo’s board and train, Abe’s dedication, hard work, skills, knowledge were very apparent with Milo and the progress he made with his obedience. Milo’s foundations are far beyond what I could have ever achieved and everything we could have hoped for at the end of this board and train. I would say Abe became our friend in the process, his sincere care and concern for Milo’s progress, and constant help and dedication to making sure our concerns were addressed goes beyond what anyone can put a price on. I would highly recommend Abe for anyone who is looking to board their dog or even do home lessons. You’ll be amazed and happy with the end product. Thank you Abe for everything! Couldn’t have been happier with our decision to go with you for Milo’s training.
Elizabeth and Brig
“We are so thankful for the training that Abe provided for our dog Brig and for us!”
We adopted Brig as a puppy and immediately hired a certified behaviorist trainer since we were new puppy owners. That trainer immediately identified him as a "difficult" dog with
"little to no bite inhibition." Despite training, he later did bite us, a staff member at a place where we boarded him, and a couple other individuals. He also became reactive on walks when encountering other dogs and people and at the vet's office. We switched to a second trainer who felt uncertain about Brig's future, feeling he may "have a screw loose." After he got kicked out of the place we sent him for daycare, grooming and boarding, we were grappling with whether we could safely keep and care for him with our young children and the need to professionally groom his bernedoodle fur. We were told by multiple parties that we may have no choice but to put him down.
That's when we found Abe and his board and train saved Brig. By going back to basics and re-training Brig to look to us for food and safety, we can now walk him in our neighborhood, take him to the vet, get him groomed etc. with confidence.
A big part of the training was training us how to be better more confident handlers, helping Brig feel comfortable by establishing routines, boundaries, and commands. We are so thankful for Abe's knowledge, communication and caring and would highly recommend him to anyone whether you have a new puppy or a dog with reactivity issues.
You and your dog will learn so much!
